offside trust stall

The Offside Trust is an independent, survivor-led organisation dedicated to safeguarding children and young people across all sports. Founded by survivors of child sexual abuse in football, we are committed to supporting those impacted by abuse and raising awareness to prevent it from happening again. Our team works tirelessly to provide a voice for survivors, advocate for policy changes, and create safe environments for children through education and support.

At the Offside Trust, we believe that no child should ever face abuse in sport, and we stand united in our mission to ensure that future generations can enjoy the positive impact of sports free from harm. Through collaboration with organisations, survivors, and communities, we aim to build a legacy of safety, trust, and empowerment for everyone involved in sports.

Alan was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. He began his working life as a civil servant before moving to Norwich on an exchange programme with HMSO. After leaving the civil service, he became a postman, which allowed him to devote more time to playing football. He played for several local clubs across Norfolk, including Hoveton, Wroxham, Lowestoft, Bury, and Thetford.

When his father became seriously ill, he returned to Hitchin to help his sisters care for him. This move also gave him the chance to resume his football career with clubs such as Shefford, Baldock Town, and Stevenage, before finishing his Hertfordshire football journey at Letchworth FC. Eventually, he returned to Norfolk, where he married his ex-wife, Kim.

In 2010, his life was forever changed. He was summoned to a solicitor’s office for the reading of his uncle’s will. It revealed that his uncle, along with a group of other men, had raped and sexually abused him over a number of years when he was between the ages of seven and twelve. The trauma and betrayal devastated him. In the years that followed, he struggled with alcohol dependency and attempted to take his own life three times as he wrestled with the overwhelming weight of the abuse he had suffered.

His path began to change when his friend Barry Howard watched the Victoria Derbyshire show, where survivors from the Offside Trust spoke publicly about the abuse they had endured at the hands of Barry Bennell. Barry urged him to reach out to the Offside Trust. He did — and found a community that understood. He became a member of the organisation, then an ambassador in 2019, and finally a director in 2023.

Since joining the Offside Trust, he has found purpose and strength. He has now supported more than 870 survivors of abuse across East Anglia and continues to fight for justice and the welfare of others who have experienced abuse.

As a footballer, he represented both Norfolk and Suffolk more than 20 times, made five appearances for Norwich City Reserves, three appearances for the FA XI, and six appearances for the England non-league team at both senior and veteran levels.

Today, he remains determined to continue his work advocating for survivors of abuse. He is profoundly grateful to everyone who has supported him throughout his harrowing, but ultimately empowering, journey toward healing and helping others.

Born and raised in Norwich, Norfolk, Cas discovered a love for football in middle school, playing for the school team before joining NCFC at age 12. Unfortunately, recurring knee dislocations forced an early end to their playing career.

After leaving school, Cas stepped away from football to focus on a career in security, becoming a police-accredited security guard. However, life took a new turn after having a child.

In 2021, when Cas’s middle child joined Wildcats, their passion for football was reignited. Cas was invited to become a head coach for Motive8, coaching girls aged 6-14. With dedication and hard work, they earned a UEFA C coaching licence. Now, as an assistant manager for a men’s veteran team and a safeguarding officer, Cas plays a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of players.

Cas met Alan through their coaching role, inviting him to speak to young players about the importance of safeguarding. This encounter deepened their commitment to protecting children in sport. In 2022, Cas joined Offside Trust as a volunteer to help raise awareness and support survivors of abuse. As a female team member, Cas provides a vital presence for those who may feel safer speaking to a woman.

Dedicated to education and advocacy, Cas works tirelessly to spread awareness about safeguarding in sports, ensuring that children, young adults, and even adults are protected in the environments they trust.

"From that day and always, I will work hard to get this message across to as many people as possible. Thank you to everyone who supports what we do at the Offside Trust."
